Directors’ Event Exposes the Power of LinkedIn

Where do you post your content and how can you ensure that it is effective? LinkedIn is the perfect platform for individuals to raise their profiles and that of the business they work for, or industry they work in.

M3 Media Publishing has long-championed, and demonstrated, the effectiveness of using content, and integrates LinkedIn into their own strategies.

For their recent Business Connections event, in central Manchester, LinkedIn expert, Nigel Cliffe, from Value Exchange, gave a talk and hosted an interactive workshop.

Objectives, Content and LinkedIn

Before an audience of business leaders and entrepreneurs, Nigel explained the value of LinkedIn, how some users of the platform overlooked its potential, and, importantly, how to generate opportunities using it.

“LinkedIn accounts for over 60% of social visits to websites,” said Nigel.  “If it fits in with your overall marketing strategy make sure that you are on there, active and engaging, to ensure that you are not missing out on valuable opportunities.”

Nigel highlighted the importance of getting your profile right and explained why so many people were getting theirs wrong.  This was especially prevalent with profile pictures.

“It is often overused but you really do only get one chance to make a first impression on LinkedIn”

Nigel explained the importance of storytelling on LinkedIn and how, when searching for answers to help him with a personal tragedy, LinkedIn content came to the rescue.

Storytelling is an approach that M3 Media Publishing’s Media Strategist, Garry Samuels, endorses.

“Just like the content in our portfolio of magazines, LinkedIn gives users the opportunity to highlight their areas of expertise, and add value by providing thought leadership and solutions to their target audiences.”

Potent Headlines

For the workshop section of the event, Nigel highlighted the importance of LinkedIn’s 120-character limited headlines, for profile intros.

“Don’t underestimate the power of your headline.  This should distill the very essence of how you can help, in as keyword-friendly a way as possible.”

“It could be the difference between a prospect wanting to engage with you, because they know, from your headline, how you can benefit them, or them bypassing your profile,” explains Nigel.

Nigel encouraged participants to craft their summary headlines, with a view to them explaining the stories behind their headlines.

Garry Samuels summed up the evening: “As M3’s guest speaker, Nigel gave us all some truly exceptional insights into how to make LinkedIn work for business. It was another successful Business Connections event providing an enduring value to businesses in the North West region.”
